Bridging Generations: Crochet Workshop
The “Bridging Generations: Crochet Workshop” organized by the Association of Volunteers Social Service and sponsored by the Social Welfare Bureau, took place on December 22. Using crochet as a bridge, experienced elderly volunteers served as instructors, teaching the skill to young volunteers. The program aimed to strengthen intergenerational communication and emotional bonds through the shared creative process.
Three senior volunteers and eight youth volunteers participated. The elders not only patiently demonstrated stitches and explained craft techniques, but also shared stories from their own lives. Through each stitch and thread, the two generations listened to one another and inspired each other, weaving not just tangible creations but also an invisible web of mutual understanding and respect.
The initiative reinforced the central values of volunteer service while practically weaving a more inclusive and supportive community environment.
