Life Gatekeeper: Peer Volunteer Training
The “Life Gatekeeper” program, organized by the Association of Volunteers Social Service Macao, funded by the Macau Foundation. This course particularly emphasizes the "Gatekeeper" strategy, training participants in core helping skills centered around "care and support," enabling everyone to potentially become a guardian of life. The course is divided into a beginner class and an advanced class, scheduled for September 20–21 and September 27–28 respectively.
Research shows that many suicide cases exhibit noticeable warning signs before an action is taken, and timely peer support can often be key to saving lives. The program enhances participants' awareness and sensitivity towards high-risk suicide groups, equipping them to recognize warning signs and provide timely encouragement and support. Participants also learn how to seek professional resources and make referrals, effectively preventing suicidal thoughts from turning into actions.
